For several years now, the addition of an outdoor fireplace has been part of backyard landscaping. In response to this demand, several manufacturers have developed a range of paver stones that allow for durable construction and unique design.

Whether your backyard has a classic or contemporary look, it will be easy to find a paver that will match your decor. Before we introduce some of the products available, let's look at a few rules to follow.

Where to install an outdoor fireplace?

It is important to check with your municipality before purchasing an outdoor fireplace. Safety standards and regulations vary from one city to another. While some ban wood-burning fireplaces, others require a permit to use them.

A minimum distance of three (3) meters, or 10 feet from any building must be respected. It is also strongly recommended, if not required, to use a fireplace equipped with a spark arrestor for the chimney and another for the hearth. Of course, certain conditions may vary depending on the type of fireplace chosen.

To optimize the use of the fireplace, it is more advantageous to position it near living areas. Since a fireplace is a gathering place, it is preferable to provide enough space for guests to sit.

Type of fireplace

Whether it's built into the ground, integrated into your paver decor or placed as a decorative element, a fireplace will certainly add atmosphere to your backyard. But what type of fireplace should you choose?

Gas fireplace

There are many different types of gas fireplaces. Sometimes contemporary in the form of a saucer placed on a terrace, sometimes more traditional because of a low stone wall. Compared to the wood fireplace, the gas fireplace does not require a chimney. However, you must respect the manufacturer's installation rules and follow municipal recommendations. Be aware that the flame and heat provided by the gas fireplace are different from those generated by the wood fireplace. In addition, the proper connection must be made for both propane and natural gas.

Glass embers, artificial logs, rectangular or square format, NAPOLEON offers a wide range of gas fireplaces to suit all tastes and budgets. It is possible to combine their outdoor fireplaces with the models of concrete block fireplaces from different manufacturers.

Wood burning fireplaces

Whether it is a steel model with a chimney or a steel pan integrated into a stone structure, it is essential to respect municipal regulations. To maximize the life of a wood-burning fireplace, you should choose durable materials such as concrete or stone blocks. Many of the paver manufacturers offer models that can be matched to the style of landscaping chosen.

Some pre-packaged models

Techo-Bloc offers various products specially designed for the manufacture of outdoor fireplaces.

The PRESCOTT line, rustic, traditional with a touch of the exotic, offers a natural and beautifully crafted appeal. They offer a pre-packaged (not pre-assembled) package that allows the use of wood, natural gas and propane. For a more contemporary look, the RAFFINATO line gives the fireplace a smooth, polished appearance. The package includes everything you need to create an ultra-refined wood burning fireplace.

The BRANDON line also has a more traditional look. It is a pre-packaged, ready-to-assemble fireplace that includes a metal cabinet to protect the stones from direct contact with the fire. Made of 90mm blocks, this fireplace is available in square or rectangle versions and is built to last.

Rinox also offers prefabricated fireplaces in different styles. The FLAMKO fireplaces offer a mix of styles that will complement a rustic chic look as well as a contemporary decor, while the ORA or SOLINO fireplaces would be good options to complement a modern decor. Rinox has also developed a more classic looking fireplace with its RIO line. All Rinox fireplaces are pre-assembled models. The grates and metal inserts are sold separately.

Your landscaping expert will certainly be able to advise you on the choice of an outdoor fireplace. The integration of a fireplace will enhance your landscape and extend the time you can enjoy your outdoor yard.
